Ideal for combining mountain sports (skiing, paragliding, quad, horseback riding, hiking, etc.) with sightseeing in the beautiful city of Granada (the palace of Alhambra) and the Alpujarras historical region. And in summer, the beaches of the Costa del Sol are just one step away! Here you will find a multitude of leisure-time activities like: golf, mini-golf, swimming (public pool) and tennis plus visits to an amusement park, playground, vineyards and winery. Local areaMonachil, located in a valley of the Sierra Nevada, is peaceful and in perfect harmony with its best known asset - the ski resort. But there is so much more to enjoy! Before arriving, you will notice the contrast between the oak, chestnut and pine forests and the stone-walled "quintas" with their thatched roofs. In Fuente Alta you can visit a restored quinta. From any vantage point along the way you can admire two natural jewels: the peaks of Trevenque (2,079 m) and Veleta (3,392 m). The historic center of the village is made up of narrow streets with a harmonious mix of peasant and manor houses (with their coat of arms still intact). Visit the church of the Incarnation, Mudejar, or the mill house which dates from 1450. Step inside the convent of Our Lady of Good Counsel, which was once a cloth factory, then continue up to the archaeological remains of Cerro de la Encina which dates back to 1300 BC. Take the opportunity to traverse some of the hiking trails, like the riverside walk of Los Cachorros, which follows the Monachil river canyon or the path that leads to the “Laguna de las Yeguas”. The palace-city of Alhambra is the most famous landmark of Granada. Situated atop the strategic hill of Sabika, it dates from the ninth century, one year after the Islamic occupation, and was the residence of the Nazari dynasty for 250 years. The sober outward appearance contrasts sharply with its splendid and rich interior of plasterwork, coffered ceilings and vaults made of filigree. Fountains, pools, refreshing gardens and gorgeous decorations make this monument a continuation of paradise on earth. Of course a visit to Granada would not be complete without experiencing the “tapeo granadino”, in which varied and tasty tapas are offered with a pint of beer or a glass of wine. Going out for tapas with friends is one of the most deeply rooted traditions in Granada. |
