Lanzarote is one of the Canary Islands. It is a volcanic island, thus, not surprisingly, a large part of the island is covered with lava and resembles a lunar landscape. The Tamanfaya National Park is formed by volcanic craters and lava fields. Here you are standing on a magma mass. Pebbles from a depth of just 10 centimeters cannot be held in the hand because they are too hot. At a depth of 1 meter straw ignites spontaneously, when it is held to the wall. Water, poured in a hole in the ground, will splash out with great force. An important artist from Lanzarote was Cesar Manrique. He had a huge impact on the original character of the island. Only the traditional colors of green, blue and brown are allowed for doors and windows, and buildings cannot be higher than four floors. You can visit the artist's home - the Fundacion Cesar Manrique - beautifully furnished and filled with numerous art works. Other attractions in Lanzarote include: La Cueva de los Verdes, the largest volcanic caves in the world; Jardin de Cactus, a bizarrely shaped landscape with thousands of cacti; Mirador del Rio, high up on the rocks offers breathtaking views including a unique view of the island of La Graciosa; or a boat trip to La Graciosa- uninhabited for centuries it offers unspoilt nature. In short: Lanzarote is a very diverse island where you can enjoy a wonderful holiday.
