Local areaThe village of Montblanc is located in the interior of the Costa Dorada, surrounded by beautiful nature. The splendid beaches are just 30 kilometers from the park. The Costa Dorada has a long coastline with many beaches and crystal clear water. From the park you can easily reach the beaches where you can enjoy the sun, sea and beach. Montblanc is an old village completely surrounded by a medieval wall with several gates of which the Portal de St Jordi is the best known. The story goes that St Jordi, the knight who killed a dragon, played here and still plays here annually around April 23 at the Setmana Medieval Festival. Montblanc is the largest walled city in Catalunya with its wall of 1700 meters which contains 31 towers. Montblanc is situated not far from the village of L'Espluga de Francolí, named after the Francolí River. Here you will find many caves to explore. In addition to the caves the Museo de la Vida Rural is also worth a visit as is the monastery of Poblet, together with the monasteries of Santes Creus and Vallbona de les Monges, a Cistercian monastery. The monastery of Poblet was built in 1150 by order of King Ramon Berenguer IV and remained in use until 1835. In this monastery you will find a church dating from the 12th century, many cloisters, the Chapter House, a library and several attics that can also be visited. For those looking for something a bit more challenging, you can try one of the many Go-Kart tracks on the Costa Dorada, Salou or in El Vendrell, or visit one of the water parks such as Aguapolis or Agualeon. In addition, you will find the largest theme park (Port Aventura) near Tarragona in Spain. |
